🚚 Shipping & Delivery: Bringing Your Calf Home
At Cortez Miniature Highlander Cows, we are committed to making the transition of your new calf to its new US location as safe and seamless as possible. Since we deal with live animals, the process is coordinated and requires careful planning.
1. Pickup Options
Option A: On-Farm Pickup
We encourage buyers to visit our farm in Rayne, LA (address available upon final purchase) to pick up their calf in person.
- Timing: Pickups are scheduled after the calf has been fully weaned and all funds have cleared, typically around 5-6 months of age.
- Requirements: Buyers must arrive with an appropriately sized, clean, and safe trailer or stock vehicle suitable for livestock transport.
Option B: Buyer-Arranged Transport
If you prefer to arrange your own transport carrier, we will coordinate with them for the pickup date and ensure all necessary paperwork is prepared.
2. Assisted Transportation (Recommended)
We work with a network of reliable, licensed, and insured third-party livestock haulers who specialize in the safe and humane transport of miniature cattle across the continental United States.
- Coordination: We will gladly help you obtain quotes and coordinate the pickup time with your chosen hauler.
- Cost: Transportation fees are always the responsibility of the buyer. These costs are paid directly to the trucking company and are separate from the calf’s purchase price. We provide you with the necessary contact information for billing.
- Quotes: Due to fluctuating fuel costs and route demand, transport quotes are typically valid for a limited time and are provided once the calf is ready for transport.
3. Mandatory Interstate Travel Requirements (USA)
All calves transported across state lines must adhere to US Federal and State agricultural regulations. We handle all the necessary documentation:
- Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI): Every calf leaving our farm will be accompanied by a current CVI (also known as a health certificate), issued by our licensed veterinarian within the required timeframe for travel.
- Health and Testing: All required health testing and vaccinations mandated by the destination state are completed prior to departure and noted on the CVI.
4. Preparation and Timeline
- Notification: We will notify you approximately 2-4 weeks before your calf is ready for departure (after weaning).
- Final Balance: The remaining purchase balance must be paid in full and funds cleared before any transport or pickup is scheduled.
- Transport Booking: Once the balance is paid, we finalize transport arrangements (either buyer’s pick-up time or carrier booking).
- Departure: The calf departs with the official CVI and registration transfer paperwork.
Important Note: We take every measure to ensure a safe journey, but once the calf leaves our premises, the responsibility for the calf’s health during transport transfers to the buyer and the chosen carrier. We recommend reviewing the carrier’s insurance policy.
