🩺 Health Guarantee and Assurance

At Cortez Miniature Highlander Cows, we are deeply committed to the health, well-being, and quality of our herd. We stand behind our ethical breeding practices and the comprehensive veterinary care each calf receives.

Our Health Assurance Commitment

We guarantee that every calf leaving our care has undergone a rigorous health protocol and is certified healthy by a licensed veterinarian prior to transportation or pickup.

1. Veterinary Inspection and Certificate

  • Veterinary Examination: All calves receive a thorough physical examination by our veterinarian at the time of weaning, typically between 5 and 6 months of age.
  • Health Certificate (CVI): We provide a current, official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), which is mandatory for all interstate travel within the USA. This document certifies the calf’s health status and vaccination history.

2. 72-Hour General Health Guarantee

We guarantee the calf will be free from any symptoms of serious illness (such as pneumonia, scours, or debilitating lameness) for a period of 72 hours following the buyer’s possession (arrival time at the buyer’s farm).

  • Buyer’s Responsibility: The buyer must have the calf examined by a licensed veterinarian within this 72-hour period. Failure to obtain this examination voids the guarantee.
  • Procedure: If the calf is found to have a life-threatening, pre-existing condition confirmed by a licensed veterinarian within the 72-hour window, Cortez Miniature Highlander Cows must be notified immediately. We will require a copy of the veterinary documentation for verification.

3. Congenital and Genetic Guarantee

We guarantee the calf to be free from any life-threatening, debilitating, or fertility-impacting congenital or genetic defect (as determined by a licensed veterinarian) for a period of one (1) year from the calf’s date of birth.

  • Exclusions: This guarantee does not cover injuries, common farm accidents, or conditions resulting from negligence, inappropriate care, improper feeding, or exposure to illness after leaving our farm.
  • Registration Guarantee: We guarantee the calf will be eligible for registration with the specified breed association (if sold as breeding stock).

Guarantee Resolution

If a calf is found to have a covered, pre-existing, or congenital defect within the specified guarantee periods:

  • Option 1 (Replacement): The buyer may return the calf (at the buyer’s expense), and upon verification, the buyer will receive a replacement calf of comparable value, sex, and quality from the next available breeding season.
  • Option 2 (Credit): If the buyer chooses not to return the calf, or if no comparable replacement is immediately available, Cortez Miniature Highlander Cows may offer a purchase credit of an agreed-upon amount towards a future calf.

Crucial Requirement: All claims under this guarantee require immediate notification and supporting documentation from a licensed veterinarian, including necessary tests (e.g., necropsy if required). Failure to follow the prescribed notification and documentation process will void this guarantee.
